Is Michael Phelps really helping kids lose weight?

I just recently came across an article that just made me a little mad. Here is why.

United States Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps signed a deal with Kellogg’s to promote health and fitness to children in an attempt to help children become more active. This is a very important topic, because obesity rates in children across the country are increasing rapidly.

Children Obesity is definitely a problem that we need to focus on. The numbers of obesity in American children continues to rise and we must do something to prevent this problem. I am all for this.

The problem that I have is that Michael Phelps’s picture will be on the cover of cereals like Frosted Flake, Fruit Loops, and other cereals that are just loaded up with sugar. Now is this the type of message that is really going to help our children or is it just going to make them fatter.

One of the biggest problems with children now a day is that they are inactive and have poor diets. They spend the majority of their time playing video games and surfing the internet. Their diets are made up primarily of fast foods and junk food, which are both loaded with sugar.  These are the two main factors contributing to the obesity problem in our children.

Do you think that by having Michael Phelps on the cover of Frosted Flakes promoting a cereal high in sugar will help the fight against child obesity or do you think it will only contribute to it and put more money in Kellogg’s pockets?
